Seaside Family Photoshoot in Whitby

Duxbury family choose their favourite coastal town to create a memorable day and picturesque Wall Art for their home.

Challenge for Sue & Glen

Family photoshoots generally come with two challenges: herding everyone and choosing a location.

Luckily, Sue and Glen knew exactly where the family would like to be photographed . . . Whitby!  A place the whole family love to visit and view as a second home.

Finding a date that worked for their four children and their three partners was a challenge - but they pulled it together brilliantly.

Solution for Sue & Glen

Sue and Glen chose a couple of locations: by the viaduct and Whitby Abbey.

The Larpool viaduct was opened in 1885 and sits in the Esk Valley running over the tranquil River Esk.  It really is peaceful spot surrounded by trees and hills.

Having the viaduct in the background certainly made for a dramatic shot - as did shooting underneath it.

We arrived early, as we always do, to scout around and find the best location before meeting the family and their partners.  They had a positive energy and you could tell everyone was up for the shoot.

Once we'd shot by the viaduct we photographed the couples before heading off to Whitby Abbey.  We didn't have permission to shoot in the Abbey itself, however the English Heritage were happy for us to set up in the house garden.

Whenever we're on location we always seek out permission to shoot in the area.  Not only is this respectful but the people we ask often get involved and show us some cool (occasionally hidden) backgrounds.

We always say collaboration creates the best photos!

The Duxbury family now own a collection of Wall Art that captures them in their favourite place.  A story telling legacy for generations to come.
