Sparkling Birthday Party Shoot, Cumbria
Challenge For Tracey
Tracey had arranged a very special 50th birthday party with guests coming in from across the country. As well as a swing band, there was a beautiful singer, disco, gorgeous decorations, and of course delicious food and drink.
Her wish was to capture all her guest as well as all those special poignant moments - both planned and unplanned.
Solution For Tracey
Photographing an event is like telling a story . . . and this story began well before the guests arrived and the host was ready.
We arrived early at Warwick Hall to capture the build up to the party; the suppliers, family and close friends all preparing the marquee. There is a lot of interaction to capture and these moments are often poignant as the relationships are more intimate.
For the party itself we split up to capture the various stages: the guests arriving and chatting, the entertainment, the food (especially the cake and signature dishes), the dancing, the fun of course, and the tired goodbyes.
When it comes to a presentation or a speech, one of us will capture the event whilst the other photographs the reaction from the audience.
However, we don't capture people eating as we assume no-one wants a photograph of themselves chewing. Usually, afterwards when the drink is flowing, guests are certainly more excited to have their picture taken!
Oh and the top tip? Ask your guests to wear bright clothes to your party . . . it'll make your pictures radiant.
