You may not know this but as photographers we aim to tell a story through our images.
We thought you might like to do this too, so here's a short blog we hope will help you create some awesome photos.
Whilst a close-up shot often creates a unique image it can just as easily miss ‘the story’.
Take for instance the image above . . . what’s the story?
We can guess they’re plastic coloured tubes of some kind. But what do they do? Why have they been photographed? Where was the image taken?
Actually the image is a close-up of a set of instruments called Bamboo Tamboo.
Now take a look at the image below.
It’s the same plastic tubes but you can see the story much clearer. Suddenly it’s more captivating. Here we have children playing the instruments in a workshop and having all kinds of fun!
Of course, this isn’t just relevant to Commercial images. It applies to other other types of photography too, especially your own family photos.
For instance, a good wedding photographer realises the importance of capturing the emotions of the big day. However, a GREAT photographer knows the value of those sentiments when they’re in context.
A must-have shot is the groom turning round to see his bride walking down the aisle. However, without the subject in the background, who is he smiling at? His Grandma? The bridesmaids? His bride? His Bride’s sister?!!
Capture the subject and now the groom’s emotions connect with his feelings. They connect with your feelings!
So, zoom out, tell your story . . . and create some great memories!
